The Sustainability House at Barrett, or more affectionately known as SHAB, is perhaps the most unique community on the Tempe campus. Founded as a collaborative sustainability community for motivated students, SHAB strives to create an environment that fosters individual learning and growth. As both a LEED Gold-certified Residence Hall and well-established student organization, we offer students the ability to collaborate between various majors, academic years, and world perspectives. 

 

Some of the building amenities of SHAB include: 

• a greywater reuse system

• energy and water use monitoring capabilities

• experimental green roof rooftop solar panels

• an organic garden

• cost saving dual-flush toilets

• individual thermostat controls

Community! We go on adventures, eat community dinners, get tour hands dirty in our beautiful garden, and participate in discussions and skill shares. We encourage enthusiasm and socializing, while still maintaining a great area for students serious about studying. We hold a substantial number of events of all shapes and sizes, whether it's a movie night, a vegan dinner party, or a weekend retreat for the entire group.
